Happyland project + exhibition: 2016
Details about 'Happyland', the final element of Kaff-eine's collaborative art project with Manila's garbage-pickers + charcoal-makers, will be uploaded soon.
In 2016 Kaff-eine will return with the Cheeseagle crew www.cheeseagle.com to Manila, to install a series of large bright Kaff-eine portraits of local heroes in the garbage-picking and charcoal-making communities, providing them with positive images of their community, and practical, durable, valuable resources to trade, sell, or improve or create housing.
For Happyland, Kaff-eine will create a collection of bright Filipino portraits, print them onto commercial-sized tarpaulins (commonly used in Manila shanty housing), and together with the cheeseagle crew, collaborate with the communities to install them on (or as) housing. The installations will be photographed and filmed, after which time the tarpaulins will be gifted to the communities, to be used as waterproof house roofing, flooring or walls; sold or traded; or cut up for vehicle roofing, bedding, bags or other applications. The photographs of the installed tarpaulins will be exhibited, along with the original portraits, in Australia and Manila.
